WhatsApp Integration in HighLevel

HighLevel WhatsApp Integration connects the WhatsApp Business API to the HighLevel Conversations Inbox. Once connected, WhatsApp messages from contacts appear alongside SMS, email, and other channels in the unified inbox. Automated Workflow Builder actions can send WhatsApp messages to contacts. WhatsApp is the dominant messaging channel in many international markets and increasingly used in the US for business communication. The integration is configured through the sub-account Integrations settings after connecting a WhatsApp Business account.

Setting Up WhatsApp in HighLevel

WhatsApp integration requires a WhatsApp Business Account – a verified business number registered through Meta’s WhatsApp Business API.

Connect the WhatsApp Business Account in HighLevel’s Integrations settings (Settings, then Integrations, then WhatsApp). OAuth connects the Meta Business Manager account to HighLevel.

After connection, WhatsApp conversations from the connected number appear in the Conversations Inbox. The WhatsApp channel indicator distinguishes these messages from SMS and email.

WhatsApp messages appear in the Conversations Inbox with the WhatsApp channel icon – easy to distinguish from SMS even when both are present for the same contact.

Replies sent from the Conversations Inbox to a WhatsApp conversation send via WhatsApp – not SMS. The channel context is maintained when replying.

WhatsApp has specific messaging rules – template messages must be pre-approved by Meta for certain message types. Session messages (replies within 24 hours of the last customer message) can be free-form.

WhatsApp Automation

Workflow Builder includes a Send WhatsApp Message action – allowing automated WhatsApp messages as part of follow-up sequences.

WhatsApp automation is subject to Meta’s messaging policies – marketing messages to contacts who have not messaged the business first require approved message templates.

For businesses with a significant international customer base or customers who prefer WhatsApp, the integration makes WhatsApp a first-class communication channel alongside SMS and email.
