HighLevel has two distinct quiz tools that often get used together. The first is the Quiz Builder, found under Sites, which creates standalone scored quizzes you can embed on any funnel or website page.

The second is the Course Assessment tool inside Memberships. This one lives directly inside a course lesson and controls pass/fail rules for enrolled learners.

Auto-Certificates connect to both. When a learner meets the right condition – passing a quiz, finishing a module, or completing a full course – HighLevel can fire a workflow that issues a branded certificate automatically.

You design the certificate in the Certificate Builder, attach it to a workflow action, and let the system handle the rest. No manual emails, no spreadsheets tracking who passed.

How Does the Quiz Builder Work?

The Quiz Builder lives at Sites > Quizzes > Builder. You start from scratch or load one of the pre-built templates from the Template Library.

The builder is a four-panel layout. The left panel holds your element types.

The center shows your pages and the results template. The right panel holds settings for whichever element or page you have selected.

The top panel has save, preview, integrate, and version history controls.

Quizzes are built page by page. Each page can hold multiple question elements – single choice, multiple choice, yes/no, short answer, dropdowns, rating, or any contact custom field.

You drag elements onto pages and reorder them freely.

Once the quiz is ready, you embed it using the Integrate button. HighLevel provides an embed code, or you can place it directly on a HighLevel page using the page builder widget.

How Branching Logic Works

Branching logic in HighLevel uses Jump To rules set on individual answer choices. When a respondent selects an answer with a Jump To rule, they skip to the designated page instead of the next one in sequence.

This means you can build quizzes that feel personalized. A respondent who selects “I’m a beginner” on page one goes to a different path than someone who selects “I have experience.” Each path can have its own questions, scoring, and results.

Jump To rules work on Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Yes/No, and dropdown elements. You set them per answer option inside the element’s right-panel settings.

The Results Page displays different content blocks depending on total score range or category totals. You configure each block with its own message, image, or call to action.

Course Assessments and Pass/Fail

Course Assessments are the quiz type that lives inside a membership course lesson. You add one by going into a category inside a course product and clicking Add Quiz.

The assessment editor supports multiple question types and an optional passing grade setting. Enable it and set your minimum percentage.

Learners who hit that threshold see a pass result. Those who fall short see a fail result and can retake.

If passing grade is not enabled, learners see whether each individual answer was correct after they submit. If it is enabled, they only see the overall pass/fail outcome – not which answers were wrong.

Results are tracked under Memberships > Analytics > Assessments. You can export the full data – submission date, learner email, quiz title, score, pass/fail, and each individual response – as a CSV.

Large exports trigger a secure download link sent by email.

Assessments are tied to the specific course and lesson where they are created. You cannot reuse the same assessment object across multiple products, but you can duplicate the questions manually.

How to Set Up Quiz Logic and Auto-Certificates

Step 1: Open the Quiz Builder

Go to Sites > Quizzes > Builder. Click Add Quiz and choose Start From Scratch or pick a template from the Template Library to speed things up.

Step 2: Add pages and question elements

Drag question types from the left panel onto your quiz pages. Use Single Choice, Multiple Choice, Yes/No, Short Answer, or any contact custom field element for lead capture questions.

Step 3: Assign scores to answer choices

Click a choice element and open its right-panel settings. Assign a point value to each answer option you want to count toward the total score.

Leave it at zero for neutral answers.

Step 4: Set up branching with Jump To rules

On any choice element, open the answer options and enable Jump To for the answers that should redirect. Select the destination page from the dropdown.

Respondents who choose that answer skip straight there.

Step 5: Assign categories to answers

Open the Categories panel from the left panel grid icon. Create category labels, then assign each answer option to a category.

This powers the personalized result messaging on the Results Page.

Step 6: Configure the Results Page

Add result blocks for your score ranges or category outcomes. Write a unique message for each block – or add an image, a call to action, or a booking link based on which result the respondent receives.

Step 7: Publish and embed the quiz

Save the quiz and click Integrate. Copy the embed code and paste it onto any page, or use the HighLevel page builder quiz widget to place it directly on a funnel or website page.

Step 8: Build the certificate workflow

In Workflow Builder, add the Lesson Completed trigger. Set filters for Product (your course), Category (the module), and the specific quiz lesson.

Click the plus icon and add the Issue Certificate action. Select your certificate template.

Step 9: Test the full flow

Submit a test response using a real contact email that meets the passing criteria. Confirm the workflow fires, the certificate is issued, and the email arrives.

Check Memberships > Certificates to see the issued record.

Certificates are delivered by email when the workflow fires. Learners can also download them from the Client Portal.

Can I automate follow-up sequences based on quiz scores?

Yes. Use the Quiz Submitted trigger in Workflow Builder. Add filters for score range or category result, then connect any automation – emails, tags, pipeline moves, SMS, or Conversation AI handoffs.

Can I use custom fields in quiz questions?

Yes. In addition to standard question types, you can add any Contact or Opportunity custom field as a question element.

Responses map directly to that field on the contact record when the quiz is submitted.
