Email Tracking in HighLevel

Updated: March 19, 2026  |  Author:

HighLevel Email Tracking records email engagement at two levels: aggregate campaign metrics (total opens, total clicks, open rate, click rate) and individual contact-level engagement (this specific contact opened the email on this date, clicked this link at this time). Campaign-level tracking is visible in the email campaign reporting dashboard. Contact-level tracking appears on the contact’s activity timeline – showing each email send, open, and click event as a timestamped entry.

What Gets Tracked

Open tracking uses a small invisible pixel embedded in each email – when the email is opened and images load, the pixel fires and records the open event.

Click tracking wraps links in the email with a tracking redirect – when the contact clicks a link, the click is recorded before redirecting to the destination URL.

Both open and click events are timestamped and associated with the specific contact – building a behavioral history that informs lead scoring and follow-up timing.

Using Tracking Data

Campaign open rates indicate subject line effectiveness – low open rates suggest the subject line is not compelling the target audience to open.

Click rates indicate content relevance and CTA effectiveness – low click rates on high open rates suggest the email content is not converting reader interest into action.

Individual contact-level tracking enables real-time follow-up triggers – a workflow condition that detects an email open can trigger an immediate follow-up call task for the sales rep.
