Course Studio 2.0 in HighLevel

Course Studio 2.0 is HighLevel’s rebuilt course creation interface, released in October 2025. It replaces the old iFrame-based builder with a native system that loads pages in under one second, walks you through course setup in three steps, and gives you a full-screen side-by-side editor for building and editing lessons without switching pages.

This post covers what changed in Course Studio 2.0, how the new creation wizard and full-screen editor work, what the Theme Customizer adds, and how to enable and use the new experience.

What Is Course Studio 2.0 in HighLevel?

Course Studio 2.0 is a complete rebuild of HighLevel’s course creation interface, released in October 2025. It is not a visual refresh – the underlying architecture changed entirely.

The old builder ran inside iFrames, which caused slow page loads, navigation delays, and inconsistent styling. Course Studio 2.0 removes iFrames in favor of Native Module Federation, which is the same architecture pattern used in modern web apps.

The result is a builder that loads major pages in under one second, keeps your design tokens consistent across every screen, and removes the page-switching friction that made the old builder feel clunky.

It ships as a Labs feature. You enable it with a single toggle in Settings and it replaces the old interface for that account.

Existing course content is preserved.

How Does Course Studio 2.0 Work?

Once enabled, the new experience takes over every part of course management inside Memberships. The product list, the editor, the offer settings, and the theme customizer all load under the same unified UI system.

Buttons, modals, forms, colors, spacing, and typography are all consistent across every screen – something the old builder never fully achieved because different sections were built at different times and patched together.

Performance improvements come from three changes working together: caching so repeat data loads from memory, lazy loading so only the content you need loads at once, and state optimization so the interface does not re-render pages unnecessarily when you make edits.

From a practical standpoint, this means you click something and it responds. There is no waiting for a page to reload after adding a lesson or changing a setting.

The 3-Step Creation Wizard

When you create a new course in Course Studio 2.0, a guided wizard launches instead of a blank canvas. It covers three steps and keeps a live preview visible the entire time.

Step 1 asks for your course name, a short description, and the category or topic. Step 2 is the thumbnail upload.

Step 3 sets the offer – Free, One-Time payment, or Subscription.

At the end of the wizard, HighLevel auto-generates a course skeleton with sample modules, lessons, and a default certificate. You are dropped directly into the full-screen editor to start filling in real content.

The auto-generated structure is just a starting point. You can rename, reorder, add, or delete every piece of it.

But it eliminates the decision paralysis of starting with a completely empty screen.

The Full-Screen Editor

The full-screen editor is the biggest workflow improvement in Course Studio 2.0. It replaces the old setup where editing a lesson required navigating away from the course structure view and losing context.

Now the Course Map – your full list of modules and lessons – stays visible on the left side of the screen. The lesson editor sits on the right.

You click a lesson in the map and the editor loads it inline without any page reload.

Drag-and-drop reordering works directly in the Course Map. You can move a lesson from one module to another, change the order within a module, or nest a subcategory without opening any modal dialogs.

Content blocks inside lessons – video, audio, text, files, assessments, assignments – are added and edited in place. The interface stays out of your way.

The Theme Customizer

The Theme Customizer gives you visual control over your course site without writing any code. It is a separate tool from the lesson editor and focuses entirely on the learner-facing appearance of the course.

You start by choosing a base theme, then click Customize to open the visual builder. Controls include primary and secondary brand colors, font selection, logo placement (header or hero section), and hero section layout.

Custom content blocks can be added to any product or lesson page: Image, Video, Cross-Sell, Custom announcement, and Call-to-Action. You can reorder them by dragging and toggle their visibility without deleting them.

Real-time preview shows changes as you make them before you publish. Once you have a theme you are happy with, you can save it as a named template and apply it to other courses in your account with one click.

What Can You Do With It?

  • Launch a course faster: The 3-step wizard and auto-generated structure get you from blank to a working skeleton in under five minutes.
  • Edit content without losing your place: The side-by-side Course Map and editor mean you never leave the structure view while editing a lesson.
  • Brand your course site without a developer: The Theme Customizer handles colors, fonts, logos, and layout blocks through a visual interface.
  • Cross-sell offers inside lessons: Add a Cross-Sell Block to any lesson or product page to promote related courses or services to enrolled learners.
  • Reuse themes across multiple courses: Save a theme template once and apply it to every course in your account for consistent branding.
  • Sell free, one-time, or subscription courses: All three pricing types are supported directly in the creation wizard and offer settings.
  • Start with a pre-built certificate: Every course auto-generates a default certificate that you can customize in the Certificate Builder before publishing.
  • Load your course site at full speed: Pages load under one second, which reduces learner frustration and keeps them moving through content.

To Wrap It Up

Course Studio 2.0 is a meaningful improvement to one of HighLevel’s most-used features. The speed gains are real, the wizard removes friction from new course creation, and the Theme Customizer gives course creators proper control over their site’s appearance.

If you have been avoiding the course builder because it felt slow or hard to navigate, this update addresses both of those complaints directly. The architecture change removes the root cause, not just the symptoms.

The Theme Customizer alone is worth enabling it. Having reusable branded themes that you can apply across a course library is the kind of time saver that compounds – especially if you manage courses for multiple clients.

Here is how to get started:

  1. Go to Settings, then Labs, and enable Course Studio 2.0
  2. Create a test course using the 3-step wizard to see how fast it feels
  3. Explore the full-screen editor and try editing a lesson inline
  4. Open the Theme Customizer and set your brand colors and fonts
  5. Add a Cross-Sell Block to the final lesson page pointing to another offer
  6. Save your theme as a template so you can reuse it on future courses
  7. Test the full learner experience from enrollment to certificate delivery

The Labs toggle is the only barrier between you and a significantly better course building experience. It takes about 10 seconds to flip it on.
